Types of Pants Women Should Wear in Winter

Going out during the winter season is a struggle if you’re not wearing the right set of clothes! We’re often so focused on layering with jackets and coats that we forget that it’s our pants that save us from freezing out in the cold.

We know that many struggles in picking the perfect pair of pants for the cold weather, so we’re here to help! We’ll go over the different types of pants worth adding to our wardrobe as we brave the winter season, from hiking pants to cotton linen pants to cargo pants for women.

  1. Hiking Pants

Style and functionality-wise, you’ll never go wrong with wearing hiking pants during cold seasons. Most come with a UV-protected fabric for outdoor use and an inner fleece to keep our legs warm.

There may be no better option than hiking pants if you’re planning to go on a winter vacation soon. Apart from hikes, you can use them when skiing, ice skating, sledding, and even snowboarding.

There’s plenty of storage too, making hiking pants the best winter gear when going out with friends or doing snow-related activities.

Bonus: hiking pants look like your average, everyday pants, so you can pair them with almost anything. Some even wear them while chilling at home!

  1. Cotton Linen Pants

We often consider linen as a summer fabric because it’s lightweight and breathable. It also comes with natural temperature regulating properties that allow heat to escape our bodies under the scorching sun.

It seems ideal to wear anything linen in the summer to keep us cool, but linen can be great in the winter too!

However, not all linen can keep us warm in the winter.

Your best bet is to go with naturally-grown cotton linen because of its inherent breathability and capacity to regulate temperature. Whether it’s summer or winter, wearing natural linen won’t keep you too hot or too cold.

So wearing cotton linen pants helps our body retain heat in the winter season and release heat in hot weather.

  1. Corduroy Pants

Another type of pants women of all ages can never go wrong with in the winter season is corduroy pants!

Corduroy is the perfect winter fabric because of its weight, texture, and thickness, which keep us warm under freezing temperatures. It’s made up of pile-cut yarn that’s been woven and cut into cords/wales.

The tufted cords provide the fabric with a fuzzy and cosy feel that’s perfect for both spring and winter. You can even start sporting these pants before the winter months arrive!

To know if a pair of corduroy pants can give enough warmth in the winter, check its cords/wales. Corduroy pants with wider cords tend to be thicker, and thicker fabric means added warmth!

  1. Insulated Cargo Pants

Cargo pants for women may not be one of the most popular options, but sometimes, finding the right winter pants has nothing to do with the style or cut. You’re free to wear basic trousers or denim jeans, as long as their fabric can pack the heat.

Insulated cargo pants are a testament to this. Many would be against wearing regular cargo pants in the winter, but insulated ones are a different story!

Compared to the typical cargo pants, the insulated models offer a blend of warmth and protection against the winter elements – which explains why they’re popular among snowboarders and skiers.

The insulating layer of the pants is usually synthetic and feels a bit heavy, so walking around in them may not be the most comfortable feeling.

To be fair, though, most winter pants tend to be heavy due to the thicker materials!

Anyway, if what you’re after is protection from the cold temperature, then you won’t be disappointed in insulated cargo pants!
